stretchheads

Stretcheads were four Scottish freaks that were essentially a hardcore punk band. But they absolutely do not fit comfortably into the genre, and have more in common with very experimental bands, like Boredoms, who they are way too often compared to. This is punk in the way that the Butthole Surfers' first EP was.

Scraping, strange, psychotic sounding noisecore is how I would describe this band's first LP, 22 short and manic bursts of energy. Their second full length gets even weirder, and the songs become longer. It's still pretty fucked up sounding though, all of their catalog is. It's obvious that the heads had an interesting and clever take on noise: none of their material suffers from being either too inane or too pompous, as many of these types of bands often do. Just great fucked up noise that doesn't make much sense but leaves me wanting to hear a lot more bands that are this spastic and unconventional.

Stretchheads-Five Fingers, Four Thingers, a Thumb, a Facelift and a New Identity

Their first album and my favorite. 24 minutes of violent noise. No bullshit. The subsequent EP's are a lot more accessible and highly recommended.

Stretchheads-Pish In Your Sleazebag

Pish is the probably what most of their fans consider this band's best album. My loyalty still stands with Five Fingers, Four Things, Etc. Call me simple, but the fact that it's their punkest sounding material and most difficult to listen to does it for me. Pish is fantastic as well, with a very developed sound and comes off as more of an album and less like a sonic attack.

There are many other blogs that have posts claiming their love for Stretchheads, usually including album uploads and other information and probably better reviews where the word "noise" isn't used four times (now five). One can easily find their entire catalog online, so I won't bother covering it here, a new blog with no readers. I will, however, get to this gem of a mathnoisemetalrock album:

DeSalvo-Mood Poisoner

DeSalvo feature two members of Stretchheads, all grown up, still fucked up, and making music heavier and uglier than ever before. Really, this album is intense. Their group is named after a serial killer, the album is called "Mood Poisoner" and the artwork has two gagged nuns begging a rabid hog for mercy. They have song titles such as, "Tonguescraper" and "Get Black", and lyrics such as, "find them and fuck them and kill them and bury them." This is headbanging, break shit music, but still intelligent and experimental (though nothing as ridiculous as Stretchheads stuff.) Highly recommended as well if you're already downloading the previous albums.
